San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge is acclaimed as one of the world's most beautiful bridges, with its tremendous towers, sweeping cables and great span. The 1.7 mile long span crosses the Golden Gate strait. Standing 220 feet off of the water, the highest point of the bridge is 746 feet and some of the foundations are 110 feet under water. Rather than carbon black and steel gray the Golden Gate Bridge has always been painted orange vermilion, deemed "International Orange." because that color blends well with the span's natural setting. |
