I still remember Nicole. She was a staple at my tea parties, pretend
school and bedtime. She was my teddy bear. Teddy bears are timeless
toys that provide so many children, including my own, with a feeling
of warmth, security and love. This month we salute teddy bears with a
few of our favorite teddy books and a few activities for teddy bear
fun. Enjoy!

Dear Mr. And Mrs. Michton,
I warmly thank you for your letter and the fine stuffed bear you
made. I can hardly wait to show my children. However, I don't
think my name is likely to be worth much in the toy bear business,
but you are welcome to use it. I wish you great luck with your toy
bear business.
Sincerely,
Theodore Roosevelt
Former president, Theodore Roosevelt's encounter with a grizzly bear
and his eventual connection to the teddy bear, makes for one
captivating story. If you plan to give your child a teddy bear this
holiday season, this book will make your gift complete.

Will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic.
This day promises dress-up, fun and games and tasty treats, along
with delicious verse and even more tempting illustrations. Who
wouldn't want to join in this picnic celebration?
Playtime
1. Declare one day to be Teddy Bear Day. Ask each child to
bring their favorite teddy from home. Ask them to share how they
acquired their teddy bears and what they like to do with their
teddy's. Be sure and lead them in the teddy bear song with their
furry friends. The song goes like this:
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, way up high.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, wave bye, bye.
