Things to Know

Turin is located in north-western Italy, the capital of the Piedmont region.
Italy is a country in southern Europe.
It is a boot-shaped peninsula that extends into the Mediterranean Sea.

Famous

Turin lays claim to the title "Capital of Chocolate". Chocolate as we eat it today in bars and pieces was created in Turin at the end of the 18th century. A specially of Turin is gianduja, a combination of chocolate with hazelnut.

Gianduja refers not only to Piedmont’s famous chocolate but to Piedmont’s famous carnival mask. In Italy, Carnevale is a huge winter festival celebrated with parades, masquerade balls, entertainment, music, and parties.

Turin is a great industrial, commercial and cultural center round which much of the region's economy revolves. The main attractions in Turin are the Duomo of Turin, the Porta Palatina, the Mole Antonelliana and the Museo dell'Automobile.

Climate

Winters in Turin are cold and damp and summers are warm.
Summer tends to be the rainiest season.

Land

Turin is surrounded on the west and north by the Alps and on the south by the hills of Monferrato. It is located mainly on the west bank of the Po River (Italy's longest river) and the foothills of the Alps.

Fun Facts

Turin was host for the 2006 Winter Olympics.
